At first sight, Joanna Magallon seems like a normal everyday college student. After having the chance to interview her I could honestly say that I would have not known or even imagined the way she is. Joanna was born here in the United States; in Arizona to be exact. After her birth Joanna’s parents decided to relocate back to Mexico where they are originally from. Joanna was raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, which caught my attention since my father is born and raised from there. Joanna has siblings, two sisters and two brothers, she is the oldest of all siblings and has had a lot of responsibility. When moving back to the US from Mexico, Joanna was left without her parents and was made responsible for taking care of her younger siblings. There were many struggles Joanna and her family had to endear, for that reason she has always been determined to come to college so she could attain a better life. Her current schedule is great, she has plenty of time to get her homework done, and also more then enough time to spend with her family; which means a lot to her. Since family is a big part of her life, it is no surprise to me that one of her family members would be her main role model; her dad. Joanna’s father is her role model for countless reasons, but the most important one would have to be that her father came to the US, started working in the fields, and rose from the bottom to the top and made a good life for his children. Her father was such a big role model that her as well wanted a be a role model for her younger siblings, and also considers herself to be one. When asked during our interview to describe herself in 3 different words Joanna had this to say “I consider myself a fighter, an achiever, and also very dedicated; dedicated to become successful.” After replying to that I asked “Where do you see yourself in ten years?”, her response was, “In ten years I see myself married, more mature, and owning a home. Hopefully by then, since I was from a bigger family I would like to have at least five kids. In order to maintain all these things, I would first of all need to have a great career. Attaining all this; in my mind, is success” is what she said, “Maybe not to everyone this would be considered success, but if I had all this I would be happy.”
To conclude the interview I asked for Joanna’s “motto” in how to become successful. In reply she simply said this; “work before pleasure.” Now in my opinion I support this one-hundred percent because that is also the “motto” I live by. To me, there always has to be sacrifice in order to have a good life, although pleasure is fun and is hard to put aside, at the end of the day it is the more mature, and smarter thing to do.
I am going to have to say this is very true and i really like the way you wrote about my life. I also found it interesting that your parents come from the same place as mine. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a good motto! Plus once you get the hard work out of the way its makes the fun even better because you've worked for it!
